Your USB hub is probably lying to you about its speed — here's how to catch it
There is a USB hub sitting on a desk somewhere — possibly yours — with "SuperSpeed USB 3.0" printed right on the box. It has four or more ports, and it promises five gigabits per second. Someone bought it specifically to stop arguing with themselves about which device gets the good port. The hub arrived, got plugged in, and has been misbehaving ever since. Files that should transfer fast don't, and drives that should scream along at USB 3.0 speeds crawl in at something closer to USB 2.0. The hub never announces this.
