Photos: Mavericks edge Knight Monsters in overtime thriller
The Kansas City Mavericks battled through a tightly contested Game 2 matchup against the Tahoe Knight Monsters on April 25, delivering a dramatic overtime finish in front of a sold-out crowd.
Tahoe struck first in the opening period, with Sloan Stanick finding the back of the net to give the Knight Monsters an early 1–0 lead. Kansas City responded in the second period as Lucas Sowder buried the equalizer, shifting momentum back to the Mavericks and setting up a tense final stretch.
The physicality ramped up in the third period, highlighted by multiple penalties that showed the intensity of playoff hockey. Both teams traded chances but were unable to break the deadlock, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra period, Kansas City capitalized on its opportunity, Lucas Sowder netting the game-winning goal to secure a 2–1 victory. The Mavericks’ resilience and ability to respond under pressure proved decisive as they outlasted Tahoe in a hard-fought playoff battle.
With the series momentum continuing to build, Game 2 showcased the grit, speed, and physical edge expected in the Kelly Cup Playoffs, setting the tone for what promises to be a highly competitive series moving forward.
